AHMEDABAD, October 14: Blending the rhythm of live music with the festive spirit of Navratri, Vishwakarma Government Engineering College (VGEC), Chandkheda, celebrated the festival through Kasumbo, bringing the campus community together for an evening of music, garba and cultural celebration. Organised by the college’s Swarangan Club, the event featured a live orchestra performed by the club’s student, adding to the festive atmosphere of the Garba celebrations. Principal Dr. V. S. Purani encouraged students to take part in cultural activities and showcase their talents beyond academics. The celebration highlighted the role of student-led initiatives in making campus life vibrant beyond the classroom.
The live orchestra added a distinctive musical dimension to the evening, with Swarangan Club members presenting vocal and instrumental performances as students enjoyed the Garba festivities. Bringing together different musical elements required coordination and preparation, giving the performers an opportunity to showcase their abilities before the college community. Their contribution highlighted the role students can play in shaping campus events through their interests and talents.
Beyond the festivities, Kasumbo reflected the enduring significance of Navratri in Gujarat’s cultural life. Garba remains a cherished tradition that brings people together through music, dance and shared celebration. By bringing students together around this tradition, the event provided an opportunity for younger generations to engage with Gujarat’s cultural heritage while celebrating one of the state’s most distinctive festivals.
The occasion also saw the VGEC Alumni Association present a gift of ₹11,000 to the Swarangan Club. The contribution reflected the alumni community’s continued connection with the college and its support for student-led cultural initiatives. Such encouragement helps sustain activities that enrich campus life and allow students to pursue interests alongside their academic commitments.
Kasumbo demonstrated that the college experience extends beyond classrooms and laboratories. Alongside technical education, cultural activities give students opportunities to explore their creativity, collaborate with others and contribute to the wider campus community. By bringing live music and traditional Garba together, the celebration added a meaningful cultural dimension to student life at VGEC.
