Technical visit to the Leadership Guest House site, Adani Shantigram Campus ahmedabad

07 August, 2026

As per the notice issued by the Applied Mechanics Department, Vishwakarma Government Engineering College, Chandkheda, dated 05.08.2026, a technical visit was organised for the students of BE Sem. 7th Civil Engineering (DPCS) to the Leadership Guest House site at Adani Shantigram Campus, Ahmedabad, to enhance practical understanding of the subject Design of Prestressed Concrete Structures. All students reported at the site by 10:30 AM as instructed, in proper college uniform with closed-toe shoes, and were provided with Engineering PPE kits by the PSP Ltd. for safety during the visit.

The visit began with an induction meeting conducted by the site officials, who welcomed all the students and faculty coordinators, Dr. B G Buddhdev and Prof. M V Chauhan, and briefed everyone on the safety rules, discipline, and objectives of the visit. Students were instructed to avoid touching any sensitive items without permission and were reminded that photography and videography inside the site were not allowed unless explicitly permitted by the officials.

Following the induction, the officials presented an overview of the overall site plan, explaining the layout of the project and the sequence of construction activities. It was explained that the precast prestressed members used at this site are not manufactured on site; they are cast at a separate precast production unit and then transported to this site, where a dedicated storage area is maintained for stacking the members before they are lifted and erected at their final position.

Students were then taken to the storage area of the site, where the precast prestressed members brought from the production unit are stacked and stored before erection. The officials explained the manner in which the members are arranged and supported in storage to avoid damage or cracking, the sequence in which members are picked up for erection, and the checks carried out on each member on arrival at the site to verify its condition and dimensions.

The key learning areas covered during the visit were:

  1. Storage and stacking of precast prestressed members brought from the production unit
  2. Prestressed member transportation and shifting on site
  3. Testing of prestressed members and their connection details
  4. Report writing and overall construction aspects of prestressed and precast concrete members

After the storage area, students proceeded to the on-site construction area to observe the practical aspects of the work. This included the transportation and shifting of precast prestressed members from the storage area to their erection location using cranes and other lifting equipment, the erection of members at their designated positions, and the details of connections between precast elements. Officials also explained the testing procedures used to verify the strength and quality of the prestressed members before they are used in construction, along with the materials and equipment used on site.
