Expert talk on Recent Trends in Restructuring of Power System

The Electrical Engineering Department of VGEC organized an expert talk on “Recent Trends in Restructuring of Power System” on 20th March 2026. The session was delivered by Dr. Y. B. Bhavsar from GEC-Bharuch. The objective of the session was to provide students with an understanding of the evolving structure of modern power systems and the impact of deregulation and market-oriented reforms. The expert began with an introduction to the traditional vertically integrated power system and explained the need for restructuring due to increasing demand, competition, and efficiency requirements. Key concepts such as deregulation, privatization, and unbundling of generation, transmission, and distribution were discussed in detail. The lecture further covered modern trends including electricity markets, power trading, open access, and the role of regulatory bodies. Emphasis was also given to the integration of renewable energy sources, smart grid technologies, and their influence on restructuring.
