Workshop on Origin Essential For Chemical Engineers

20 September, 2025

The ChemSOFTClub of the Chemical Engineering Department, VGEC, successfully organized workshop for under-graduates students of Chemical Engineering on Origin for Data Analysis & Graphing’ during 9:45 AM to 1:00 PM on 20th September 2025.

The workshop aimed to introduce participants to the basic of Origin software, focusing on its use in data analysis, graphing and scientific visualization. Students learned how to import experimental datasets, analyze them and present results effectively through professional plots and charts.

Key Features:

  • Organizing Department : Chemical Engineering
  • Expert Name : Mr. Parth J Shah, Doctor of Philosophy, PhD student at IIT Gandhinagar
  • Duration : 20th September 2025 (9:45 AM to 1:00 PM)
  • Venue : H-202/3, Chemical engineering Department, VGEC
  • No. of Participants: 48
  • Event Coordinator : Dr. Girish D. Vegad, Associate Professor & Faculty Advisors – ChemSOFT club, Chemical Engineering Department, VGEC

Discussion Points

  • Introduction to Origin interface and project explorer
  • Importing, organizing and preprocessing datasets
  • Creating 2D and 3D graphs (line, bar, counter and surface plots)
  • Customizing graphs with labels, legends and annotation
  • Extraction of X & Y axis  data  from the graph
  • Hands-on practice using sample datasets relevant to Chemical Engineering

Words from the Expert:

“Origin is more than just a plotting software- it is a bridge between raw data and meaningful insights. By learning it early, students can enhance their research quality and communicate scientific results effectively”
