Mission English Sessions

09 April, 2025

About the Club:

To enhance communication and employability skills of our engineering students, Mission English was initiated in February 2019. The objectives of the student-driven initiative are to enable students for their interaction in English and to boost their confidence through various activities; to make students comfortable in an English-speaking environment. It is coordinated by Dr Vaseem Qureshi (Assistant Professor, English, Science and Humanities Department, VGEC).

About the Event (Introduction):

The Mission English initiative aims to cultivate communication excellence among students through interactive, skill-focused sessions. These sessions are scheduled every Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM and are led by student coordinators from various branches. Activities include debates, creative writing, dialogue performances, listening and speaking drills, and more. The consistent structure and variety of topics help students gradually improve fluency, confidence, and language articulation.

Objectives:

  • To enhance English communication skills among students.
  • To promote peer-to-peer learning through student-led sessions.
  • To encourage creative and critical thinking using language-based activities.
  • To boost public speaking confidence in a collaborative environment.
  • To make language learning engaging and application-oriented.

Conduction of the Event:

The Mission English initiative at VGEC continued to nurture language excellence through a fresh series of weekly sessions held between January and April 2025. Taking place every Wednesday from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the Language Lab (E-Block), this semester’s lineup brought engaging activities curated and conducted by students themselves under the guidance of Dr. Vaseem G. Qureshi.

The session cycle began on 29th January 2025 with Tales in Motions: Write & Act, led by Shashikala and Nupur, where participants fused writing and drama to express thoughts vividly. On 5th February, Inspired to Speak: The Art of Stage Presence—by Aastha and Vishwa—focused on enhancing students' confidence and effectiveness in public speaking. Continuing the momentum, Headline Hoaxes on 12th February, coordinated by Neonica and Angel, explored media literacy through creative language interpretation.

The session on 19th March titled Mastering (A/P) Voice and (R) Comprehension, coordinated by Mahek, Suchit, and Lawaniya, focused on grammatical clarity and reading comprehension through practical activities. Whispers of When, Where Rhymes Reveal on 26th March (by Hitarth, Aarya) used poetry to bring out rhythm, tone, and creative fluency.

Altogether, the Jan–Apr 2025 sessions reflected Mission English’s dedication to holistic language development, peer collaboration, and interactive learning. Each module was not only skill-focused but also crafted to boost the overall personality and confidence of students in English communication.

Outcomes:

  • Enhanced student confidence in speaking English.
  • Significant improvement in public speaking and articulation.
  • Development of leadership and teamwork through student coordination.
  • Creation of a supportive space for language learning.
  • Recognition of Mission English as a sustained, impactful activity under VGEC’s language development initiatives.
