MISSON ENGLISH

11 October, 2023

About the Club:

To enhance communication and employability skills of our engineering students, Mission English was initiated in February 2019. The objectives of the student-driven initiative are to enable students for their interaction in English and to boost their confidence through various activities; to make students comfortable in an English-speaking environment. It is coordinated by Dr Vaseem Qureshi (Assistant Professor, English, Science and Humanities Department, VGEC).

About the Event (Introduction):

The Mission English initiative aims to cultivate communication excellence among students through interactive, skill-focused sessions. These sessions are scheduled every Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM and are led by student coordinators from various branches. Activities include debates, creative writing, dialogue performances, listening and speaking drills, and more. The consistent structure and variety of topics help students gradually improve fluency, confidence, and language articulation.

Objectives:

  • To enhance English communication skills among students.
  • To promote peer-to-peer learning through student-led sessions.
  • To encourage creative and critical thinking using language-based activities.
  • To boost public speaking confidence in a collaborative environment.
  • To make language learning engaging and application-oriented.

Conduction of the Event (All DETAILS):

As part of the Mission English initiative, a session was conducted in the Sept–Oct 2023 period with the aim of enhancing the communication skills of students across all branches. The session focused on building confidence in spoken English through engaging activities such as group discussions, vocabulary games, speech exercises, and interactive role-plays.

The event was held in an informal and student-friendly environment, allowing participants to express themselves without hesitation. Mentors guided the students with tips on grammar, pronunciation, and sentence construction. Real-life conversational scenarios were also practiced to help students improve fluency.

The session witnessed active participation and a positive response from students. It successfully contributed to the broader goal of Mission English — fostering better language skills and boosting the overall personality development of students.

Outcomes:

  • Enhanced student confidence in speaking English.
  • Significant improvement in public speaking and articulation.
  • Development of leadership and teamwork through student coordination.
  • Creation of a supportive space for language learning.
  • Recognition of Mission English as a sustained, impactful activity under VGEC’s language development initiatives.
