About the Club:
The purpose of VGEC Book Club is to foster a culture of reading, critical thinking, and intellectual exchange among the students. The Club plays a pivotal role in enhancing the overall educational experience and creating a platform for students to engage in meaningful discussions beyond the regular curriculum. The Club is coordinated by Dr Vaseem Qureshi (Assistant Professor, English, Science and Humanities Department, VGEC).
About the Event:
The VGEC Book Club organized a serene and enriching Book Reading Session aimed at fostering a peaceful space where students could pause, unplug, and immerse themselves in the world of books. This event encouraged students to bring along a book of their choice and simply read in the company of fellow readers, creating a calm and focused atmosphere that celebrated the quiet joy of reading.
For those who didn’t have a book with them, the club offered access to Pustak Parab—a unique student-led initiative where donated books are shared among peers. This not only ensured that everyone could participate but also promoted the spirit of sharing and collective learning within the campus. With a variety of genres available, students had the chance to discover something new and explore stories they might not have encountered otherwise.
The session was not about discussion or performance, but about being present with a book—surrounded by others doing the same. It allowed students to reconnect with reading as a personal habit, free from pressure, and full of possibility. The event successfully nurtured a quiet yet powerful sense of community, reminding everyone that sometimes, the most meaningful moments come in silence—lost in the pages of a good book.
Objectives:
The primary objective of the Book Reading Session organized by the VGEC Book Club was to cultivate a peaceful and focused environment that encourages students to engage with books purely for the joy of reading. The event aimed to promote independent reading habits, reduce academic stress through mindful literary immersion, and foster a shared culture of curiosity and learning. By integrating Pustak Parab—a student-driven book donation initiative—the event also sought to ensure accessibility to a variety of books, while reinforcing the value of sharing and community-driven learning.
Conduction of the event:
The VGEC Book Club conducted a peaceful and enriching Book Reading Session on 19th July 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, at the Language Lab, E Block. The event was envisioned as a calm literary space where students could take a break from their fast-paced routines and immerse themselves in uninterrupted reading. Without formal speeches or structured activities, the session emphasized self-paced exploration through books.
Students were invited to bring their own books, while those without one could choose from Pustak Parab—a student-driven collection of donated books. This initiative not only ensured accessibility but also reflected the spirit of sharing and community-led learning. The wide variety of genres available encouraged participants to try something new and connect with unfamiliar stories or perspectives.
The setting was intentionally quiet and reflective, creating a sense of collective mindfulness among readers. The simplicity of the event allowed participants to fully engage with their books while still feeling a sense of togetherness. Smooth coordination and a relaxed environment made the session meaningful, reminding students of the joy of reading for pleasure, not pressure.
Outcomes:
The Book Reading Session offered students a much-needed pause from their academic routines, inviting them into a calm and focused environment centered around books. The event shifted the spotlight from performance to presence, allowing students to read purely for personal enjoyment. This unstructured, pressure-free format encouraged mindfulness, concentration, and a quiet appreciation for literature—making reading feel refreshing and restorative.
The inclusion of Pustak Parab made the session even more meaningful, as it ensured that no student was left out due to the lack of a book. This not only encouraged spontaneous participation but also highlighted the strength of student-led sharing and community spirit. Overall, the event fostered mindfulness, encouraged literary curiosity, and reinforced the VGEC Book Club’s mission to make reading both accessible and enjoyable for all.
