Expert Lecture on BIM Driven Construction Design a Modern Approach

25 July, 2025

The Applied Mechanics Department organised an expert lecture on "BIM- Driven Construction Design a Modern Approach” at Visvesvaraya Auditorium for the students of sem. 3 and sem. 5 of Civil Engineering Department. The main objective of the expert lecture was to provide knowledge about BIM and AR/VR using Autodesk Revit and STAAD Pro software. The expert lecture included Q/A sessions for solving every kind of queries. The expert lecture concluded with the vote of thanks to the expert who helped the students to gain the knowledge in the domain area.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) has revolutionized modern construction by creating intelligent 3D digital representations of buildings that encompass their entire lifecycle. This technology enables seamless collaboration between architects, engineers, and contractors while providing advanced clash detection capabilities that identify conflicts before construction begins. BIM consists of project planning, cost estimation, and scheduling processes, and continues to support facility management after construction completion, making it an indispensable tool for efficient and sustainable building delivery.

The integration of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and specialized software like Autodesk Revit and STAAD Pro has transformed how construction projects are visualized, design and executed. Revit's parametric modelling allows for coordinated multi-disciplinary designs with automated documentation generation, while STAAD Pro ensures structural integrity through comprehensive analysis and code compliance checking. AR/VR technologies enhance these capabilities by enabling immersive project walkthroughs, improving stakeholder engagement, and providing on-site construction assistance. Together, these tools create a comprehensive digital ecosystem that improves safety training, facilitates early design issue detection, and ultimately leads to better-informed decisions and superior project outcomes.
