21 June, 2021
Every year, 21stJune is celebrated as the International Day of Yoga. This year the day marked at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic continues to upend the lives and livelihoods of people globally. Beyond its immediate impact on physical health, the COVID-19 pandemic has also exacerbated psychological suffering and mental health problems, including depression and anxiety.
This has highlighted the urgent need to address the mental health dimension of the pandemic, in addition to the physical health aspects. Recognizing this important role of Yoga, this year’s commemoration of the International Day of Yoga at NSS VGEC focused on “Yoga for Well-being” - how the practice of Yoga can promote holistic health of every individual.
The NSS VGEC celebrated the International Day of Yoga in online mode through Microsoft Teams in which Dr Namrata Sopariwala, an endodentist and yoga trainer was invited as an expert. Almost 63 participants including students and faculty members of various departments joined and performed different asanas and learnt about their benefits. The event aimed at raising awareness among students about importance of mental & physical well-being through practicing yoga. The yoga trainer, Dr Namrata Sopariwala, concluded, “Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self."
