Abstract | Manufacturing can be generally done using three modes: subtractive, forming or additive. Forming mode required dies and moulds whereas subtractive mode inherent material wastage. Additive manufacturing, a novel method which implies layer-by-layer manufacturing approach for the manufacturing of parts directly from digital model or by giving shape specific path. Wire+arc additive manufacturing is a process of manufacturing metal parts using Fused Deposition Modelling and Welding process. The research is based on trying to achieve an objective to produce metal components with good surface finish; good geometrical accuracy and with minimum cost of production. The manufacturing process involves creation of layer-by-layer metal formation by melting metal using arc between electrode and substrate. The molten metal is deposited and followed along a path of 3D model with the help of KUKA Robot. Also, the influence of the process parameters like wire feed rate, deposition pattern, travelling speed, heat input/Energy input, etc. needs to be further understood for achieving the present challenges as well as identify the future research direction is Wire+arc additive manufacturing or manufacturing metal components. |
