Abstract The application of herbicide to weeds at an early stage plays a vital role in the management of field crops, both monetarily and ecologically. We propose the use of hierarchical inference over deep learning models to encode multiple levels of abstraction for classification of AVIRIS hyperspectral data for discrimination of crops and weeds in the field. The goal is to improve the classification accuracy to guide in the process of selective application of herbicide to weeds.
