The Chemical Engineering Department organized an Alumni Interaction Session on “GATE Preparation” on 7th August 2021, on Microsoft Teams. The session was enlightened by Kaushal Jethwa (Alumnus 2019 batch, now in IIT Bombay), Nidhi Parmar (Alumnus2020 batch, now in IIT Madras), Dhaval Patel (Alumnus 2021 batch, now in IIT Madras) and Prince Patel (Alumnus 2021 batch, now in IISc-Bangalore). The event was coordinated by Dr. Milap G. Nayak & Prof. J. B. Trivedi. The event was attended by 45 participants.
The session mainly focused on creating curiosity among the students about their higher studies along with discussing the importance of the GATE exam and its opportunities for a better career. The participants were also made aware of the basics of the GATE exam such as question framework, materials to be used, preparation strategies and how to crack the exam.
The alumni interaction covered topics like the importance of the GATE examination for fresh technical graduates, opportunities through GATE for PG Programs in India, abroad studies, corporate Jobs etc. Some simple tips and tricks were given for cracking the GATE exam such as solving the previous years’ GATE exam question papers, identifying important topics which were frequently asked in the paper etc. The alumni alsoguided the participants about how to searchfor the profile and courses in IIT and IISc, and the types of research carried out to choose the institute and work environment. The students learnt the importance of the GATE examination and were motivated for the same. The students were made aware of various opportunities through GATE and the do’s and don'ts for GATE preparation. The alumni interacted with participants and solved their queries at the end of the session.
