A Construction Site Visit Hostel at Chandkheda

The Department of Civil Engineering organized a construction site visit for the 3rd semester students under the Basic Construction Technology (BCT) subject on 15th September 2025. The purpose of this visit was to provide students with practical exposure to various construction processes, materials, and structural components that they have been learning theoretically in the classroom.

The site visit was successfully coordinated and guided by Prof. D. R. Rawat and Prof. A. N. Dave, who explained each aspect of the construction process in detail.

  •  Brick Bonds: Identified different brick bonding patterns used for strength and durability.
  • Batching Plant: Understood concrete mixing process and importance of water-cement ratio.
  • Types of Cement: Learned about OPC, PPC, and their practical applications.
  • Structural Components: Studied lintels, chajjas, beams, columns, and slabs.
  • Doors & Windows: Observed components and alignment in construction.
  • Plastering: Differentiated between internal and external plaster finishes.
  • Scaffolding: Compared bamboo, timber, and steel scaffolding for safety and use.
  • Reinforcement: Identified types and placements of reinforcement bars.
  • Concrete Defects: Discussed common defects like honeycombing and cracks, and prevention.
  •  Safety Practices: Highlighted PPE use and quality control measures on site.
